Diabetes today
According to the CDC in their latest report in 2017, over 100 million adults in America are diabetic or prediabetic. The epidemic is growing on a yearly basis and is only expected to get worse. People with diabetes are also at an increased risk of serious health problems such as kidney failure, heart disease, vision loss, premature death, and amputation of toes, feet, or legs. As you can see diabetes, has a wide-ranging effect on the human body and on the country as a whole.(1)
What are the main causes of diabetes? While type 1 and type 2 are different, they do have some main points in common. In simple terms, what all types of diabetes have in common is that they cause the human body to produce too much glucose (sugar) in their blood. When we have glucose in our blood it is the insulin, made in our pancreas, which then allows the glucose to enter our cells and fuel our bodies.
However, diabetics, have issues with insulin production (type 1), availability (Type 2), and quality (Type 2) leading to more issues. (2)
Diabetic Issues
As we see, glucose levels are a major issue with diabetics. Unstable glucose levels can cause a wide range of health issues on those suffering from them. Drugs prescribed from doctors assists in keeping the glucose levels lower and steadier throughout the day.
Another serious issue that many people with diabetes suffer from is diabetic neuropathy. This is one of the most common and painful complications from diabetes. It is caused due to high glucose levels within the blood which can then, in turn, injure the nerves in the body. The most common areas of injury are in the legs and feet. Some symptoms can be numbness, tingling, cramps, weakness, and loss of reflexes. (2)
Solutions (ingredients)
Over time there has been a vast amount of research into natural methods and treatments for those suffering from diabetes. As pointed out above, two main areas of concern are the ability for someone with diabetes to control their blood glucose levels and also keeping their nerve health in top condition in order to decrease the chances of suffering from diabetic neuropathy.
Some of the most effective natural remedies for ensuring blood glucose is kept within the normal range is Biotin, Fenugreek Seed Extracts, Selenium, and Coenzyme Q10. Given that let's take a closer look at these;
Biotin has been found in numerous studies to support and improve glucose and insulin tolerance. One study showed that with a relatively small amount of biotin taken daily it was able to decrease glucose levels compared to the studies controls. Another study showed that biotin supplementation was able to assist in insulin secretion, ultimately making insulin more effective.(3) (4)
Fenugreek seed extracts also have been shown to have an effect on reducing glucose levels in human studies. A 10-day human study was able to prove that fenugreek lowered glucose levels as much as 50% or more in those taking it compared to the placebo. That is great, along with another study showing its ability to lower insulin resistance. (5) (6)
Selenium a well-known trace mineral has been shown to exert its effects on glucose levels effectively. One study with diabetic adults showed that supplementing small amounts of selenium was able to lower blood glucose levels and had beneficial effects on insulin’s effectiveness within the body as well. (7) (8)
Coenzyme Q10 a very popular supplement now has been researched maybe as much as any other natural product. Among other findings, a human study showed that CoQ10 can directly lower the blood glucose levels of those with diabetes. CoQ10 also has a strong effect on diabetic neuropathic pain spoken about above. It was shown that CoQ10 is protective by inhibiting oxidative stress and reducing the inflammation associated with neuropathy, by downregulating proinflammation factors. Research conclusions state “...CoQ10 administration represents a low risk, high-reward strategy for preventing or treating diabetic neuropathy” (9) (10)
While CoQ10 covers both, diabetic neuropathy also has specific natural products that are effective and well researched. Ashwagandha root, Vitamin B12, Oat Straw Extract, and Lions Mane Mushroom are all effective and have assisted with the issues of diabetic neuropathy. Let's take a quick look.
Ashwagandha a herb commonly found in India has been well researched for numerous issues, yet we focus on its effects on the nervous system of the human body. Research has shown that the active chemicals within ashwagandha, have a deep and lasting impact on the nerves themselves, their connectivity to others and overall health. (11)
Vitamin B12 research has shown that those with lower or deficiency of the vitamin are at a greater risk of developing diabetic neuropathy or if they already have it, worsening at a faster rate. Research into B12 has shown its ability for the promotion within the body for nerve regeneration and remyelination through the supplementation of B12. B12 also has been shown to be involved in a selective blockade of nerve condition which is associated with painful conditions, thus its ability to help regulates pain with nerve issues. (12) (13) (14)
Oat Straw Extract has been shown in one study to reduce inflammation related to diabetic neuropathy and also resolve some of the tingling or itch feelings that some can experience from their nerve issues. (15)
Lions Mane Mushroom has important support effects on nerves within your body. When supplementing with Lion's mane mushrooms extracts, it has promoted the normal development of nerve cells and the regulatory effect and genesis of myelin. Myelin which covers nerve cells supports, protects, is crucial to almost all nerve functions. (16)
One solution (product)
It would be difficult for anyone to incorporate all of these into a daily diet in order to ensure their glucose levels, insulin resistance, and diabetic neuropathic pain are well managed and controlled. Given that, we at VitaPrima have combined these amazing and effective ingredients and created NeuroCalm 2X to offer complete and daily support for these issues.
Formulated by our expert Dr. Michael O’Leary, after reviewing all of the relevant scientific research, designed a safe and effective supplement to combat the issues and side effects of diabetes.
